Hi, I’m Denis and this is me with one of my favourite guests.
After a successful career as a jockey I found retirement a bit boring. Barkroyal is a great job because it keeps me active and around animals.
After losing my beautiful German Shepherd Mustard a few years ago I adopted Lily, a little Silky Terrier who was a guest at Barkroyal that was in need of a new place to call home.
Hi, I’m Natasha and this is Wally. Wally is an Irish Wolfhound cross Mastiff.
We are avid dog foster carers and Wally is a part of the Share Reading Program for children who get to read to Wally weekly.
I have over 5 years experience in animal welfare and I absolutely love being around all the the dogs and cats that come and stay at Barkroyal.
My name is Belinda and I am the mother of one human and 2 fur babies.
I have worked in animal welfare/ rescue for 10 years and loved every minute of it. My passion for working with animals started when i got my first dog and I haven’t looked back.
I have fostered hundreds of animals in my own home over the years, with my interest being dogs with special needs and behavioural issues.
In my spare time I volunteer for animal rescue and work on my own pet related business.
Although I love all animals, I am a self declared crazy dog lady and I’m proud of it!
Hi I’m Sarah and this is Stumpy, affectionately known as Humpy. Stumpy is an Australian Terrier cross. I also have a cat called Barry but he didn’t want to be in the photo.
My hobbies include Animal conservation, music, socialising with friends, camping, and travel.
I’m a singer in a rock band and run an Animal Conservation Volunteering agency in my spare time.
What I love most about animals is their unconditional love, their forgiving nature and their ability to trust after being hurt.
My favourite quote is “Some of the best days of your life haven’t happened yet”
My name is Julia, zookeeper turned dog trainer.
My fascination with dogs and their behaviour led me to leave my 6 year career as a zookeeper and become a certified dog trainer and behaviourist with my own training business.
In my spare time I can usually be found hiking, running, or swimming with my two dogs Honor and Hamlet, or training for Flyball and Jetty Jumping, two sports we engage in competitively.
I have previously worked as Head Trainer of an assistance dog program for children with autism and for adults suffering from PTSD, and have a passion for puppy development, behaviour modification, and mental health awareness.
What I love most about working at Barkroyal is witnessing the positive changes in the behaviour of many of our guests (both cats and dogs) as they come to know the staff and make friends among our other regular visitors.
Craig and Melody met through dog training, and have enjoyed many years training and competing with dogs, including agility and sheep dog trials. They boast hands on experience in the industry, providing trained dogs for performance and demonstrations.
Their Border Collie ‘Maverick’ (a past guest of the Animal Welfare League of Qld) was a featured dog in the show at the Australian Outback Spectacular and they now have their Kelpie ‘Silk’ in the current show. They provide working dogs for Paradise Country, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, the EKKA and regularly entertain crowds at regional and metropolitan Shows.
“Our pets are a very important part of our lives, they mean everything to us. They were even included in the bridal party on our wedding day.”
